Ian McElhenny
Ian started his journey into engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) where he received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering. While at ERAU he spent two summers interning for Rockwell Collins (now Collins Aerospace). After graduation, he took a full time job with Collins as a Software Research Engineer within the Advanced Technology Center (ATC).
While working at ATC he worked on legacy software/hardware systems, such as the COREsim suite of simulation software, the Athena line of flight controllers, and the CNPC radio systems. Additionally he worked on several internal research projects for autonomous flight and control of UAVs. Lastly, he designed the microservice backend for Collins UTM/UAS flight management system, known as WebUAS, and participated in the NASA TCL4 research project.
He now serves as Chief Software Architect at Third Insight. In his free time he enjoys working on novel solutions to problems in day to day life as well as designing and building furniture for his own use.
